For the past few days Lebanon has been going through a very tough storm - great for pictures. I didn't risk going out but still reached exceptional results from behind my window. In the first picture I used a slow shutter speed to capture lightning. Beirut and the lightning are isolated in the corner by the darkness. The second picture is of the rain drops on my window.

The diverse and wild flowers of the Ehden Nature Reserve were exceptionally good subjects to photograph. I found it difficult to portray such beauty with only a camera and my photographic skills. A trip to Ehden had proven to be quite fruitful for me as a photographer. There were many animal related stories that crossed our paths on the way up. The Ehden Nature Reserve is one of the most diverse nature reserves in Lebanon. It retains the qualities of an enchanted forest. Everything you could possibly find in the reserve was just plain beautiful. Here are a few landscape photos from inside the reserve.

I recently went on a trip to Ain Zhalta and El Barouk so as to take pictures within their nature reserves during sunrise. After I arrived I learned that the reserves open at 10a.m. Disappointed I decided to take pictures outside of the reserves. I was surprised to find so much beauty. I underexposed this shot so as to make the sun seem cornered or alone. This is a cedar tree's cone.

A grocery store is a very good place for photography. Some of this particular grocery store's products are wild. The dominance of one unique color in almost every photo makes these shots special.

I found this bumblebee while walking around. The purple flower it landed on made it a perfect place to take pictures of. The contrast between yellow and purple, and the late sunset light made the colors perfect.

This shot may not seem very interesting in it's normal size that is why I added a cropped version of it below. It is a star that I took a picture of using a zoom lens. I fastened my camera onto a tripod and made the shutter speed 30 seconds. I am not sure if it really is a shooting star or if this photo is the result of camera shake. Both shots were staged. Both strawberries were on the plate. I was aiming for a simple picture of the small strawberries. The rim of the plate was detailed and full of different colors so I covered it up with a few tissues. If you look closely you can see the shadows of the tissues on the plate since the main source of light was from above.

This is a picture of a plant with sharp leaves. On the underside of it's leaves I found some sort of fungus or parasite which was making the plant sick. I chose to take a photo of this using macro to get up close. I am very fond of the end result, what do you think?

This pigeon is living on my rooftop, luckily it was on my balcony that day. The floor was reddish with a bit of orange, it made it look like the background was sand. One thing to keep in mind in portraiture is you have to focus on the eyes. Well this isn't really a portrait as it is an animal but that rule still works well here too.

The shallow depth of field I used in this shot made it seem blurred although it isn't. This was an old gift that unfortunately was broken, that's why the handles aren't where they belong.

This was right before the sun disappeared under the sea. You can still see a speck of the sun in the middle. The different shades of red in this photo were great.  The sunset was somewhat naturally out of focus because of the formation of the clouds. I overexposed the pictures a bit so that the sun is like a fire ball and that the whole scene seems like some sort of mirage.

Although it may not seem like it, this is a shot of a rose that was outdoors and not cut off. The shallow depth of field I used gave it a crisp feeling and for some reason there seems to be a lot of contrast in this shot even though I have done nothing to alter the contrast.

Spring is here and all the flowers are blossoming. A great chance to get some macro photography done. I used a shallow depth of field for the first shot so that I give it a somewhat magical look. What's bokeh? Bokeh is an out of focus pinpoint of light. For example the image above is an out of focus shot of cars and city lights. Even though it's  shot that's out of focus, the simplicity of the bokeh on the black background made it a success.

This is a wild flower I found in a nearby forest. It was the only flower of its kind in sight. I like the contrast between the purple of the flower and the green of the grass. The way the petals are arranged isn't common, this makes the flower an all more interesting subject.

The building to the left is an ancient hospital in the heart of Beirut. Bones of the dead can be seen through the windows in the small attic-like structures on top of the hospital. This photo is a combination of the hospital and a church tower to the right, in a way meaning in the remembrance of the dead.

Due to the recent minaret crash in Morocco I decided to upload a few photos of minarets. They're basically a tower above a mosque. The upward angle on the first picture glorifies the minaret. Although the second minaret has the sun behind it giving it an eerie feeling.

You have to be up late or really early to take shots like these. It's essential to have the darkest possible background keeping your subject as the only light source. I overexposed the image above to give the feeling that the ship is ablaze. I exposed the second image normally, it looks as if the ship is alone in the darkness without a horizon.

It was fun taking pictures of different chandeliers from directly under. The radial symmetry and how it changed with three chandeliers is fascinating.  I enjoyed comparing these three lights. The dark background in the first two pictures makes the lights pop out.

This set of pictures of the sun, especially the close up, remind me of a ball of fire. I slightly over exposed the shot to my liking. The rays of light peeking through the cloud really amaze me.  I thought that it would be interesting to take a wider shot to include Beirut in the frame along with a few clouds. I tried this twice, off centering the sun once to the left and once to the right.

The texture in leaves is a great photo subject. Although autumn has passed, there still are a few leaves hanging around. It was a good idea to go macro since it would give you a clearer view of the number of veins on the leaf. White balance had a great effect on the color of the leaves. A great shot of a sunset from a hillside monastery. The sun was setting into clouds rather than the sea. The trees poking into the photograph are a great addition to this picture in particular.

This unique flower was a great photo subject. The colors in this photograph are wonderful. The middle of the flower was slightly brighter than the corners. The immense beauty of this flower made it hard not to get a good photo at it. Taking this shot wide gave the foreground plenty of space, making the position I took this photo from obvious. The sun peeking out of the clouds made it seem it's rays are reaching out. These factors give the impression that the sun is shining just for you.

The fishermen lights act as a great foreground and the moon is in a relativley perfect position. Beirut's lights look good reflecting on the sea too. This picture was taken right after sunset, this made it easier in cases of light. Overall this photo is a success.

The lines of light in the sky make it obvious the sun is behind the large cloud at the center of the frame, and the outline of light makes the cloud look magnificent. This scene was rather perfect for a photo.

Exposure is very versatile. It can change an image entirely. Which is why it is so important to correctly expose a picture. After taking this picture of a kumquant tree's flower, I realized that an insect of some sort was on the upper right hand side of the flower. Coincidence gave me a spider directly under this kumquant flower which was on the same tree as the first flower.

If you find that investing in a macro lens is a bit overpriced, then try a reverse ring.
